When the clitoris is stimulated or sexual arousal occurs, blood flow increases to the clitoris, surrounding erectile tissue, and the entire vulva. This increased blood flow causes the tissue to expand, which can lead to sensations such as pain, heaviness, cramping, aching, and discomfort.
Completion of the orgasmic cycle allows the area to decompress. If orgasm does not occur, a condition sometimes referred to as “Blue Bean” can develop.
“Blue Bean” can be relieved by reaching orgasm through masturbation or by shifting to a non-arousing activity until blood flow returns to normal. Symptoms typically resolve within about 30 minutes with patience and time.
What is commonly known as “Blue Balls” in men is referred to as “Blue Bean” in women. In both cases, the condition is caused by arousal of erectile tissue without orgasm. Although anatomy differs, the resulting sensation of pressure and discomfort is very similar.
